Toy Model Trains Are No Longer Toys
Trains have always fascinated children, boys in particular. And a favorite of the young is Thomas the Train. They watch everyday, mesmerized, fascinated. It’s an addiction the young are unaware of, and wouldn’t understand, if they were. Why do they find them so wonderful? Then the young grow into adults, and the fascination remains, but now they understand their fascination. Now they realize what had captured them; control over a powerful machine.
It’s a known fact; men like to play with “toys”. What is it that drives them to do so? What makes them want to control a powerful machine? Even if it’s only 1/87 of the size. Maybe it’s how a train functions. The inner workings, like the electricity, the source of its power. Or maybe it’s that the trains is limited to running on tracks. Could it possibly be the memory of a train setup, around a Xmas tree, going around and around and around it each Xmas morning every year. But in reference to model trains, the word toy is no longer appropriate. Toy model trains have grown into machines, along with the little boys, who have grown into men.
The toy trains that you normally see around Xmas time are those that are made from plastic. They are priced low and are not high quality, but low quality. They are, however, a great way to introduce children to a potential hobby. Boys grow into men and toy trains become locomotives, and made to last. They do not have the “push it lightly to move it” feature as in the plastic lower quality trains. Wheels are made to provide better contact with tracks, better contact with tracks supplying electricity helps the trains run better . These trains also have heavier locomotives, and this helps with the contact on tracks. They are made of metal, not plastic, are stronger and have more pulling power. All of which make model toy trains enthusiast happy. How much the train weights has a lot to do with how it works. The heavier, the better, and the more contact it will have with the current running through the tracks; this means better running power.
The locomotive made out of metal also means a better quality machine.
We’re not going to stop there, with electricity. As if wasn’t enough, we can also get steam run engines for the adult boy. These steam engines are now being offered by the manufactures of these wonderful adult model trains. Many different qualities and models are being offered, but nothing is better than watching a running steam engine with the engines smoke streaming in the air.
Not many boys grow up to be engineers of a real locomotive, but I’m sure many would have loved to be living that dream. It’s not necessary to drive a real engine when you can bring your dream to life with your love of model trains. Become a hobbyist and live the dream of your younger years, as a boy, and build your own railway setup today.
